From Great Height - December 2007 to October 2011

Hello all,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the end of 'From Great Height'. After much discussion and deliberation we have decided that we have taken FGH, creatively, as far as we can and it is probably better to bow out gracefully now as opposed to sticking blindly to something we don't 100% believe in. It wouldn't fool anyone let alone fans who have followed us these past 4-5 years.

I won't go on too much, but in short, we have had a fantastic time. Whilst we perhaps didn't set the world on fire we have been knocking flint together for a while and enjoyed every second of it. We have achieved many of our personal goals and feel grateful for, and appreciate every single person who ever came to see us, listened to us, told someone about us. Real music is art not product and if you can make even just one person understand and connect with you, then you have won and it was all worth while. That many of you over the years have showed us continued support and put your belief in us is overwhelming and humbling indeed. So thank you.

I would also just like to say a few thank you's from the band to people who have helped and supported us along the way. No band can do it alone and underground music relies on a support network of music lovers who do it not for money but for kicks.

We want to thank Jenn Selby for giving us our first national press via Terrorizer. Thanks to Stu Tovell for showing us great support and supplying us with his vast knowledge. It was invaluable to a band like us just starting out. Thank you also to Ross Tovell, Andy Hall, Cherie Collins, Melissa Atkin, Lydia Martin, Sarah Squires, Rich Miller, Chris Reeves. Jake Slisz & Jason Blackford (and the house of blackfrost), Lea (Dark Violetta) and all the people who came to our shows and regularly paid their way in and supported the local scene and spread the music around (Sorry, i know i have missed out many people here. But thank you to everyone who came out to see us). Thank you to Derrick Wess, and his tireless work taking pictures that make us look much cooler than we really are. Thank you to Mark Seibert and 9blind, Dmonic (RIP), Syn X, Jack Cooney and Follly, Hal Sinden and the boys in Talanas, Beth Sinden, the boys in Talk Show Hosts, Tacoma Narrows Bridge Disaster, and all the bands we have ever played with and supported. Kunal Singhal over at Chaos Theory (One of the best independent promotions in London). Thank you to Jon and George at The Peel for making us feel so welcome time and again. All your help has been immeasurable and we can't thank you enough. A special thanks to Gary Boast our first drummer who helped get us off the ground in the early days and to Nick Beere at Mooncalf for being so patient in helping us record our first two EP's. Thank you to all the people at totalrock.com Malcolm Dome, Tina Saul & Sara Harding (been following TR since i was 16 and to get to be involved in some form was just a life dream realised). Thank you to everyone at Classic Rock: Presents Prog, Jerry Ewing and Holly Wright for all your help and advice, reviews etc... we will never forget that.

There are so many more people we should thank, friends and family who supported us throughout and i could write a list three pages long. So we will just say thank you to everyone for making FGH such a big part of our lives and for making it fun since day one.

From Great Height

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As one journey ends, another begins.

We will still continue to write music. If you are a fan of From Great Height you can still follow it's members and their music.

Tim can be found creating some of the UK's finest Dubstep. With well over 7000 listens on his remix of DJ Fresh's 'Louder' and over 40,000 views on YouTube you would be a fool not to watch him with both eyes as closely as possible. Big things lay ahead for him. Head on over to his soundcloud page for more!

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/FlyteOne

Adam & Michael the greatest partnership since Tuna Fish and Jelly have already begun work on a new EP for their new project titled 'Five Points Of Articulation'. Whilst probably the closest thing to FGH of all the side projects, do not be fooled. FGH this is not. Expect a dark electronic edge and a glaring simplicity that makes for a moody, darkened, heavy, post-industrial sound. If you can imagine NIN wrestling with Depeche Mode and Mogwai then you are half way there.

***Quick Update***

Hey guys, going to go a little bit quiet for a while as Tim has injured his foot (send him some love).

When we return we will be starting to record the next EP. I know i keep saying that but it was actually booked in for next week (that was until Tim had his legs bitten by a sharkodile whilst holidaying in Clacton). So we will return in September with a show in Camden and more details of our EP release!

Stay classy people.

***Pictures from the Peel***

Hello all,

Really awesome night down at the Peel earlier this month. Talanas and Spires were perfect hosts and we thank them for letting us tag on to the London date of their Bloodstock warm-up tour. It was a great night of music in one of our favourite venues. As a metal fan you/I couldn't really have asked for more. I highly recommend both bands.

Our good friend and associate 'Derrick Wess' was at the show. Here are some photographs that he took. As always you can find more of his extensive photography collection over at his official blog by clicking here.

***July Round-Up***

Hello all,

Hope you all had a fantastically productive month. The weather here in London has been..... shall we say, sticky? But thats how we like it. Please read "like" as deteste.

Just another monthly round up of all things FGH. Here we go...

First things first only one gig this month. This will be on the 29th of July in Hoxton at The Workshop with Old Street being the closest tube station. It's a new venue to us, we haven't played there before so we are not completely sure what to expect but it should be a right ol' knees up anyway. To be taken to our facebook event page click hereWe look forward to seeing you at that one, we will be airing a brand new song too called 'The Calm That Comes After'. A snippet of which can be heard at the end of this video FGH YouTube Channel.

FGH Will be getting all dolled up this coming Sunday 3rd July as we are getting some new promo shots done with our good friend Derrick Wess. I will post them as soon as we have something worth posting. But the reasoning behind the photo's is to make us look uber-cool *giggles*, but more because we are creating some flyers promoting our website and free music. We will be handing them out at gigs and leaving them in relevent establishments kind enough to allow us to do so. If you think you could help and would like some mailed to you or you know somewhere good to suggest we leave some then let me know. You can email us over at fromgreathieght@hotmail.co.uk and just whack 'flyer distro' in the subject line.

All the pre-production for the new EP is moving along nicely (it has a working title now aswell). Also we now have a venue for the drum recordings and will be getting them done as soon as possible. We are currently discussing artwork and themes (what you would like to see? send ideas to us on twitter at @fromgreatheight we love hearing them). We are also toying with the idea of download only 'Bonus Material'. Keen followers with great powers of deduction will already know what i am talking about. The rest of you will have to wait. It's a surprise.

And thats it for July i am afraid. It's quietly busy for us, what with lots of behind the scenes action going on. But FGH will keep moving and bringing you the best new music we can.

Look forward to seeing you out there.

FGH

P.s. If you are into your Prog-Metal (you are) then head on over to www.talanas.org. Our good friends in Talanas have just announced a warm up tour of England in support of their appearance at this years Bloodstock festival. They are playing one of our favourite London venues in The Peel, Kingston on the 5th August. Try and get down there and see them tear it up. It is also a great opportunity to pick up their debut album 'The Waspkeeper' which features an awesome (if i do say so myself) guest apprearance from our very own Adam Ever. A review of this album can also be found in the current issue of Metal Hammer magazine. TTFN!

***One click FGH goodness***

Keep abreast of the latest FGH news on your iPhone. Some of you may already know about this feature and some might not. So I thought I would make a quick little how to:

For starters, open Safari on your iPhone and go to our tumblr blog. http://www.fromgreatheight.tumblr.com

Once at the blog you will see a picture of Adams nipples. Ignore them and click on the icon in the middle of the lower toolbar. As highlighted below. (Adam is also helpfully looking at said icon, he is so clever!)

Some options will open. Click the bar that says 'Add To Home Screen'.

A new menu will open allowing you to name the 'icon' accordingly. e.g. FGH

A pretty little icon now shows in your iPhones home screen for one click access to all things FGH. SIMPLES!

Our 'tumblr' blog is a mirror of our official FGH blog so you wont miss a beat. There you have it, hope this helps.

Oh and as the late great Peter Falk  would have said... 'Just one more thing'. With the 1st of July fast creeping up, this means the monthly 'FGH Newsletter' is nearly upon us. If your not on the mailing list and would like to be contact me at fromgreatheight@hotmail.co.uk

Love and Unicorn breath,

From Great Height

***Photos, Shows, Music Reviews and Twitter***

Hello all,

Just a quick one to say thank you to all who came down to Friday nights show at the Boston Arms. Between us all we raised over £700 for Sandra. I am sure the money will go some way to helping her. we were happy to be a part of the show and we wish her all the best for the future.

Here here some pictures from the show taken by our good friend Mr Derrick Wess, who never fails to capture the moment perfectly. Derrick has shot us since the early days and we will be taking some promo shots with him on July 3rd so look out for those. In the mean time visit/follow his blog over at The Eye of the Aperture for regular photo updates and info on his forthcoming projects. On top of all this i have heard from good authority that he bakes a mean cookie!

Here are some of his shots from Friday:

Whilst we are here let me also point you towards a great review of the all day festival 'Mattfest' which we played earlier in the month. Fantastic review with some kind words said about us, so a big thank you to James for this. http://www.starjump.org/jamesa/?p=18

We got no live dates  now until July 29th when we hit Hoxton town. more details to follow on that. The time between now and then will be spend preparing and rehearsing our remaining new songs in preparation for the forthcoming release. But feel free to message us any questions or if you just want to chat. We do so enjoy hearing from you. We are all on twitter by the way, you can follow us at the following addresses:

***Charity Gig for Sandra***

Hello all,

Just a quick reminder that tomorrow night we play 'The Boston Arms' in Tuffnell Park as part of a fundraiser for 6 year old Sandra who is currently battling Cancer. All money made on the door will go toward helping her in her fight for life. Tickets on the door are £5. More info can be found over on our facebook events page by clicking here.

And you can also read more about Sandra's story here.

Other than that, we had a successful rehearsal last night finishing up the instrumentals for new song 'Between The Divide'. We can now start on writing vocals but you can expect to hear it live very soon. Its sounding pretty good to my ears, I will hopefully post a sample online soon so keep an eye out for that.

Until next time,

FGH

***Aaaaaaand RELAX!***

Phew....

Mad couple of days that was. Great showings at both The Peel, Kingston and The Purple Turtle in Camden (yeah that's right. we only play places beginning with the letter 'P'). Thanks to everyone who came down and showed support as always.

I have put some pictures below proving just how awesome these events were. Massively enjoyed Matt Stevens too. Was great to see him again. I have posted a live video I made on his new track 'Rusty' have a look if you enjoy digital looping/acoustic guitar/noodling stuff.

But onwards and upwards my friends! Those gigs are in the past. Gone! Finished! Over! Time to move on. Our next show is for a very good cause. The event is called 'Music For Life- Charity Gig For Sandra'. Now Sandra is a 6 year old girl with cancer. We have been asked to play this show by our good friends in The Mercy House. We don't know Sandra personally but I have been affected by cancer and unfortunately a lot of people these days have. One hundred percent of all door takings will be going towards helping Sandra in her fight for life and will help her beat cancer for good. Anything we can do to build steps towards beating this horrible ruthless disease is a good thing. Go to the facebook events page by clicking HERE.

Some of you will have already heard our latest song Disciple (what do you think by the way? enjoying the darker sound?) but we also have two more on the back-burner. We shall be completing them in the next couple of weeks, hopefully with a view to air them at a live setting soon. As well as this we are putting the wheels in motion to bring you all a new EP. I can exclusively reveal that currently the track-listing so far looks like it will be 'Mayday', 'Disciple', 'Contact, Release', ' The Calm That Comes After' and 'Between The Divide'. this is subject to change but it's looking more and more concrete that this will be the new as yet unnamed EP.

Finally our 'Merch Store' is imminent. I will be making an announcement on that very very soon. So sit tight and i will let you know more info in the next couple of weeks.

That's all for now. Hope your all good, keeping well. Keep in touch. Love hearing from you all.

TTFN,

FGH

***A May in the life of FGH***

WOW! what a busy week/weekend we have had....

After our usual Wednesday rehearsal we went on to Fuzzgun at Barform. it was pretty mental. It took a while to get going but once the place filled out and the beer/sweat started flowing it was time to get messy!

Our good friends in Follly were first up. They did themselves proud as usual with a blistering set of aggressive punk'n'grunge. Our very own Adam Ever also joined them for what was (if i do say so myself) a pretty epic rendition of the MC5 classic 'Kick Out The Jams'. Hopefully i will be able to get some audio of that out to you very soon. We also debut our new track Disciple. Let us know what you think. it's a bit heavier than your used to from us. But thats not a bad thing right?

So a big thank you to everyone who made it down to see that and stuck around for all the bands. Enfield isn't the easiest place to reach, in particular get home from late at night. So it's testament to you guys that we still had a decent crowd. Awesome!

Then came Saturdays show, Facemelter at The Miller. I had been looking forward to this show all week and it didn't disappoint. It was ridiculously hot in there, but that didn't seem to bother anyone. I may have burst in to a fit of giggles half way through the second song due to the tiny break-dancer (who did body pop right through our whole set) and "The Screamer" as he was named. But honestly, it was such a memorable gig. I don't think i will forget that one in a long while. If all their shows are that lively then i seriously suggest you get yourselves down to Facemelter at the Miller.  The promoter Kunal really has his head and his heart in the right place and i can see him making waves down there along the river bank. Here is the link to his facebook group: Chaos Theory Facebook Page.

Again, everyone who came down, cheered us, paid to get in and took time out to spend your Saturday night with us.... Thank you. You guys really are what makes our wheels turn and make it all worth while.

Throughout May we will be re-grouping and getting a few admin things sorted, it's exciting trust me. I will keep you posted as it comes. But our next gig is not till June 1st.

We shall see you then!

New Recordings

Just found out we shall be recording 3 to 4 new tracks (depending on time restraints) in the next couple of weeks. More info as it comes!

**Photo's from last nights show***

Followers of ours will know that we played Barform in Enfield Town last night as part of the Fuzzgun promotion. Here are some pictures.

Also on the bill were good friends Follly and Enfield vets Djevara. I highly recommend searching out both bands.

So a big thank you to all those who came down and supported us. You humble us regularly, and for this we are grateful.

***Ghetto Sticks***

Here is Tim with his ghetto sticks...

Long story short, we had to scavenge for old broken sticks dis-guarded at our practice room and tape them together.

DIY music at it's best ladies and gentleman. Coincidently Adam forgot his synths and so we used a dead squirrel wired up to a car battery. IT WORKS!

p.s DON'T forget!! If you are in Enfield way tonight we are playing a free show at Barform with our friends in Follly & Djevara. Details are below. Come say hi!

Monday 25 April 2011

***Clutch Great Height***

Ever wonder what would happen if 'From Great Height' started to experiment with styles and create some dirty southern metal in the vein of Down and Clutch?

No, neither had we-but we did anyway and have now set it to a fitting video of things being blown up. Enjoy!

***FGH @ The Facemelter. Brought to you by Chaos Theory at the Miller***

Here we have the next show for you.

This one is at 'the Miller' in London bridge. We have been down there to see our good friends in 'Tacoma Narrows Bridge Disaster' and it's a great little venue which has a great promoter who is keen to build a scene that promotes and helps fresh new talent. Such as ourselves.

I urge you to go down there. Not just to see us but just go check out some bands.  They are dedicated to putting on bills that suit each-other. that means you won't get one bluegrass band, one funk band and one black metal band. No no! These bills are crafted to make sure YOU get the music you WANT to hear. And i highly recommend it.

So this gig is on May 7th. Will cost you just £4 british pounds!

Follow this link and it will direct you to the Facebook events page that will give you all the info you need!

See you there!

***Supporting 'Djevara' at Barform, Enfield***

Hello all!

First post an all that. This is of course our official blog. You wont find much here that you wont find on our facebook page or be updated about via our official twitter or website. However it is just another way of letting you all know what indeed is going on in the wonderful wold of From great Height.

So without further a due here you go. From Great Height have signed up to support the wonderful, Enfield's very own indie warriors 'Djevara'. it's been a fair while since they did a local show so this is shaping up to be quite an event. It will take place at Barform (Next to Enfield Town train Station) and is a free event, yes, FREE. Only bad thing is that it's over 18's only so do bring I.D. if you are lucky enough to need it!

Click on the picture below to be directed to the facebook events page for this gig and once there click on 'Attending'. good work!

Okay so... Hope you got all that. Until next time.
